The gala performance of the season!  Join us May 4th for a programme that celebrates five iconic piano composers of the instrument’s history. The Write Off the Keyboard Mainstage showcases those figures from our not-too-distant past who not only interpreted with formidable mastery but wrote exceptional music from the piano’s vantage point: Liszt, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Harry Somers and Adam Sherkin. The fire and talent of Canadian Harry Somers’ youthful keyboard music is paired with Rachmaninoff’s dynamic early work for the instrument. From Chopin’s life-long devotion to the piano as both player and composer, to Franz Liszt’s virtuosic re-imagining of the instrument’s capabilities, Sherkin offers his recent works as pianist/composer in his own right: urging a sort of modern context to earlier such pianism.   .   .   .   .   .   Further details
